Pinch Punch, First of the Month

So with today being the 1st October is an appropriate time to take a look at a little tradition that goes on in the English-speaking world.  It is customary for children to pinch and punch (playfully, not with menace) people while saying the (half) rhyme, ‘pinch punch, first of the month’.  Traditionally you are only allowed to do so before 12 noon.
